Out with Old
Already envisioned changing this part of my driveway when I bought this house. It has 3 car garages and a pretty good size driveway but when one steps out on the passenger side of the far right driveway, one had to step into dirt so the one thing I had to do was to use pavers and as you can see on the right side on this page, it turned out pretty nicely.
In with the New
Laying the pavers is the easiest part of this project, but the hardest thing for us was to take out the concrete slab and the tree trunk. The kids tried talking me into renting an electric hammer but I wanted to save a buck or two and use manpower with just a sledgehammer. It took us a while but sure we go it done and that's all that matters.
"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while."
My neighbors and others have asked me what thrives me to do all these DIY projects and my response was my upbringing. And I carried them all from thousands of miles away.
Growing up on an island was a blessing. Going out to our lands to clear some trees and planted others was where it all began.
It continued into my Middle and High School years. As a student at the Neighboring Island Middle School, I helped build some of the school buildings and clear lots of trees and bushes. Continued on to the Outer Islands High School, I was enrolled in Mr. Haspalur's construction class and helped rebuild some buildings that were destroyed by Typhoon Orchid.
During Summer months I would be back on my island working alongside other kids in what they called the Summer Youth Program. We helped built water catchments and were the ones that planted lots of Red Pog Lilies alongside the beautiful Ifalik main pathway from the village of Felachig all the way to Rawaii Village. I am sure we planted tons of spider lilies too.
Here in the mainland and in the state of Washington, the weather is pretty different so I had to learn new things. To do that, I must see uncle Google and Papa Youtube. They will always be there to give you everything you need to know.
The best advice I can give is don't be afraid to make mistakes. You will only learn new things through your mistakes. so stay motivated and learn it on the fly.
